Finland - 19 June 2007– THQ Wireless today announced the launch of Cell Weaver™ technology, created by the company’s leading mobile phone software developer, Universomo. Designed for use across many genres of Java mobile phone games, the software engine will be used in multiple THQ Wireless games going forward.
Universomo has been offering mobile development solutions for leading global game publishers since 2002. The company’s proprietary game development environment has enabled the new Cell Weaver technology. The first consumer–facing launch of in-game Cell Weaver technology is scheduled for launch in Spring 2008.
Adam Comiskey, International Vice President of THQ Wireless commented,“Universomo’s Cell Weaver game technology is a versatile application for game design enabling the most sophisticated game design solutions. Cell Weaver will provide the mobile game player with fast, simplistic functionality for lightning speed, fun gameplay”.
Cell Weaver technology is designed to create a highly unique and original control mechanic, allowing the game player to form sequence patterns by using the mobile phone keypad. This application is perfect for combat games from battles and duels to complex martial arts moves where the player has to defend and strike back by doing counter moves. Other gameplay uses include a hero’s superpowers or in role-playing games when casting spells. Cell Weaver can also be applied to music, dance or rhythm based games.
Cost containment is an important part of Universomo development strategies, as seen in the multiple genre usage of Cell Weaver. Henri Roth, Creative Director at Universomo, commented,“Cell Weaver can be applied as a base for genres from rhythmic music packages to action battles and combat duels. For the first time on mobile, the player really has the feeling of holding the reigns!”
Based in Finland and acquired by THQ in 2007, the team at Universomo has been working with leading publishers since 2002, creating award-winning, top-selling games based on many of the biggest brands in the wireless space. The company’s recent projects include Rollercoaster Rush, 300: The Mobile Game, LEGO Star Wars I&II and Emergency Mayhem. The next THQ Wireless title developed by Universomo scheduled for release is Stuntman®: Ignition™. Universomo’s proprietary game development environment and automated porting solution supports all major wireless platforms including Brew, CDMA, GSM, Java, and others across more than 700 handsets worldwide.
