Valve’s Dota 2 crowned IGN People’s Choice Award winner

25/08/2011  – Gamers across the world have named Valve’s Dota 2 as their favourite game of gamescom 2011 as the winner of the Guinness World Record breaking IGN People’s Choice Award is announced.

The new award attracted an unprecedented 258,367 gamers to vote on IGN.com and the gamescom show floor, picking up the World Record for Most individuals voting for a videogame award” – as verified by the prestigious Guinness World Records – Gamer’s Edition.    Voting on the gamescom show floor proved an overwhelming success, with one in five attendees taking part in the IGN People’s Choice Award.

The IGN People’s Choice Award becomes the world’s largest videogames award – based on the number of individuals voting.  In its first year, it overtakes other gaming awards ceremonies that attract a larger total number of votes due to their multi-category format, but deliver a far smaller number of gamers taking part.

Dota 2 was finally unveiled by Valve Software on the show floor at gamescom 2011, and promises gamers a unique blend of online RTS and RPG action.  Value invited the very best Defence of the Ancients players from around the globe to compete in its multi-million dollar Dota 2 “The International” tournament, also streamed online.

The IGN People’s Choice Award shortlist featured a total of 25 games across 15 publishers, picked by a global panel of IGN Editors.
