Breaking Joysticks’ tradition, we’ve made significant changes to the awards categories for 2010. No longer are there any console-specific awards, instead - the Joysticks will be awarded for the best titles in specific genres, including Fighting, Strategy and Music. We continue to celebrate UK talent with the‘UK Developer of the Year’ category and the prestigious‘Ultimate Game of the Year’ category remains, as does‘One to Watch’, predictor of so many videogame hits over the years.

Organised by Future, the special-interest media group, The Golden Joystick Awards are voted for by the only people who matter– gamers. We’re proud to call the Joysticks the People’s Gaming Awards.

The Golden Joysticks have been the ultimate accolade in gaming since 1982 and are now recognised as the biggest and most popular gaming awards on the planet. A spectacular 1.2m public votes saw the Joysticks pick up a Guinness World Record in 2009.

Last year, Activision’s Call of Duty series dominated the event, scooping three awards, and gamer power won out as Fallout 3 was named‘Ultimate Game of the Year’. Once again, the combined might of the online community was recognised when fans of Runescape, the world’s largest free MMORPG combined to get Jagex named‘UK Developer of the Year’.
