WESTWOOD COLLEGE BRINGS EDUCATION TO SIEGE

Atlanta, GA– September 15, 2010— The Georgia Game Developers Association (GGDA) today announced that Westwood College was sponsoring both a college fair and professional tutorials at the fourth annual Southern Interactive Entertainment and Game Expo (SIEGE). Scheduled for Oct. 1– 3, 2010, at the Crowne Plaza NW Atlanta hotel, SIEGE focuses on the fast-growing game design industry in the South.

“Westwood is not only arranging for hundreds of high school students to get the chance to explore options for degrees in programming, art, game design and so on, but they are also showing their commitment to continuing education by sponsoring tutorials for professionals,” said Andrew Greenberg, SIEGE director and a partner at Holistic Design, Inc., an Atlanta-based computer game company.

The college fair attracts schools like Westwood, Georgia Tech, Southern Methodist University’s Guildhall, SCAD and more. Students get the chance to visit with school representatives as well as attend educational sessions on game development as a career.

The professional tutorials are as diverse as developing games for Windows 7 for Mobile, publishing music on Rock Band Network, programming in Flash, and more.

“Continued growth of the computer and video game industry requires new centers of excellence to emerge with talented labor pools,” said Clinton Lowe, president of GGDA and CEO of C. Allen Lowe and Associates.“More than 15 Georgia colleges currently offer video game-related academic programs. With tax incentives of up to 30% of game project budgets, Georgia is quickly becoming a new center for technology and games.”

Now in its fourth year, SIEGE features leading figures from a wide spectrum of the industry, including artists, programmers, designers, writers, teachers and business executives. Other speakers include government figures, experts on computer game violence, social issues, serious games and more. SIEGE’s keynote speaker is Nolan Bushnell, creator of Pong and founder of Atari, speaking on the future of the industry.
