PARIS, FRANCE – December 19, 2012 – Game Connection Europe 2012 today announced contest winners from a phenomenal line-up of unsigned games, where developers competed for the prestigious Selected Projects award. Following presentations from all 15 nominees and a period of tough deliberation by the expert jury, sponsors Microsoft Studios, Reverb Publishing, Tapjoy and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe presented the prizes to two well-deserving studios.
Finland’s Frogmind was named winner of the Best Project award for the beautiful and highly original side-scrolling action adventure game BADLAND. The team will receive a dev kit and developer support from Microsoft, plus three months of public relations strategic advice and support from Reverb Publishing’s parent company, Reverb Communications.
BADLAND also claimed the top Sony Computer Entertainment Europe prize, followed by runners-up Guns of Icarus Online from Muse Games, USA, and Shadow Diver the Game from Gamagora - Lyon 2 University, France. As the winner, Frogmind will receive a Vita/PlayStation dev kit and technical support for the launch of its game on PlayStation®Network. All three teams are invited to attend a Sony platforms training day at the company’s European headquarters in London.
"First of all, Game Connection is a really great way to connect with game industry professionals. We had the chance to meet with many potential business partners in the three days. Huge thanks to the organizers for the excellent event,” said Johannes Vuorinen, Co-Founder, Frogmind, Finland. “Secondly, we are really, really pleased and proud that we, as a new two-man indie game studio, won not only one but two prizes with BADLAND! There were so many great projects in the competition with us and we hope that our success inspires developers all over the world to start new indie game studios to make awesome games."

Tapjoy presented the Best Mobile award to futuristic rapid-fire party game Disky from Israel’s Playful Shark & Untame Games. The team will receive € 5,000 in development credits to use for application development and to integrate Tapjoy services at launch, plus € 10,000 in marketing credits to use for the promotion of the application on Tapjoy’s marketplace. The winner will also receive complementary monetization and distribution coaching in the run up to the release of the game.
“Winning the best mobile project award from Game Connection surprised and amazed me as Disky is our first game as an independent studio. It took only three months to develop with a team of two and a half dedicated developers and a tiny budget,” said Goldy Gold, Studio Manager. ”As Israeli projects are not often acknowledged for creative achievements in our industry, and as the other competitors demonstrated truly great products, winning this award created a great leaping-point for my project, and gave me the best exposure I could ask for with potential business partners.”
