Winterstrike, a planetary romance by Yoon Ha Lee available now on StoryNexus

Winterstrike, a new science fiction text adventure by US based science fiction author Yoon Ha Lee, is now available to play on Failbetter Games’ StoryNexus platform.

The game transports players to the Winter-locked city of Iria, a place of starship carcasses, cold guns, insectines... and the enigmatic ironbird.

Winterstrike is one of the many games available to play for free on the StoryNexus platform. Other titles include the award-winning Fallen London, musketeer thriller Cabinet Noir, 18th century dream intrigue (and World of the Season winner) Samsara, and many more.

“Yoon Ha Lee is great,” says Failbetter CEO Alexis Kennedy. “She writes like the unacknowledged offspring of Elizabeth Hand and William Faulkner, and I’ve liked her work since I read The Black Abacus, a short story about love and death and ethics and an unfought war in space. I found out recently that she wrote interactive fiction too. So I asked her to write something for StoryNexus.”

“My goal with Winterstrike was to evoke a world,” says Yoon Ha Lee, whose work has also appeared in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, Clarkesworld, Lightspeed, and Beneath Ceaseless Skies.

“I love planetary romance and space opera with its colorful imagery, and I was determined to deliver an interesting game experience through the prose.”
