wooga wins big at the European Games Award 2011 - Best Publisher and Best Social Game

The 2011 European Games Award was given out yesterday evening in an official ceremony on the event ship Pure Liner in Cologne, Germany. 69 companies from 17 countries were nominated in 23 different categories. Winners were announced on the trip from Niehler Harbour along the Rhine. wooga beat out strong competition in two categories - as the best European publisher and with "Diamond Dash" as the best social game.   

In just a short time since its creation in 2009, wooga  - world of gaming, has become the number one social games provider in Europe. With around 35 million monthly active users, the Berlin-based company has not only secured the leading role in the European branch of the industry, but has also reached number two in global rankings. 

Among the company's most popular games are the memory game "BrainBuddies", simulation games like "Happy Hospital" and "Monster World", and award-winning arcade games "Diamond Dash" and "Bubble Island" (which was recognised as the best social game of 2010). Every month, millions of users test themselves against their friends to see how fittheir brains are, care for their pizza bushes, or see to it that theirdog overcomes its Napoleon syndrome. As with popular board games, social games are played with real friends on social networks, primarily Facebook.  

'The award is a major honour for wooga - just two years after ourfounding, we have been recognised as the best European publisher. We certainly didn't expect this after established industry giants like EA, Ubisoft, Bigpoint and Gameforge were nominated,' Jens Begemann,CEO of wooga, expresses his delight with the  double victory. All of our games are fully developed with a lot of love by small international teams in Berlin.' 

wooga also recently announced that they will be publishing an iPad and iPhone version of the award-winning game "Diamond Dash", which is one of the top 10 games on Facebook with over 10 million users per month. Diamond Dash iOS will use Facebook Connect and is available in the App Store at the end of the summer as a mobile social application for millions of fans.  

The European Games Award is the first European award in which a European jury participates in the voting for the best games. The award highlights the variety of outstanding games developed in Europe and also honours the commitment of the developers and publishers who are involved in the production and marketing of those games.  

On Monday, August 15 2011, Jens Begemann, founder and CEO of wooga,will deliver a keynote address on the future of the entertainment industry at the GDC Europe developer conference, which is being heldin the run-up to gamescom in Cologne.

Also on Monday from 3:20 to 4:10 PM, in the Rheinsaal, 1st floor,Henric Suuronen, Head of Studio at wooga, will lead the discussion on the topic 'Killer Game Loops in Social Games' and offer deep insights into the development process of a new wooga game.  

During the GDC Europe, wooga will be at area # 159 in the CongressCenter Ost, 1st floor - at gamescom on August 17 and 18 2011, woogawill be in Hall 4.1 - D30/ D31 at the G.A.M.E. Association booth.
