Zelda leads Wii chart charge

Tuesday, 12th December 2006 at 10:00 am

On the back of Wii’s unparalleled first week hardware sales, Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess leads the UK Wii software battle entering the ChartTrack All Formats Top 40 at number five.

EA maintains its brace at the top, however, with FIFA 07 making it three weeks at number one – surely making it the odds on favourite for Christmas number one. Need for Speed: Carbon claims second whilst Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 6 climbs one spot to third.

Wii has two exclusive titles in the Top 10, with Wii Play, which came bundled with the Wii Remote, claiming ninth spot. Ubisoft’s Red Steel is the highest third party title in the listings, debuting in 19th, whilst another Ubisoft game, Rayman Raving Rabbids, claims 30th.

Other titles in the top ten include Activision’s Call of Duty 3 at number four, EA’s The Sims 2 Pets at six and THQ’s WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2007 at number seven. Microsoft’s Gears of War slips two places to eighth whilst LucasArts' Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy props up the rest in tenth.

Outside of these four, the Wii top ten sees Sega’s Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz claim fifth spot ahead of Activision’s Call of Duty 3 at number six. This is followed by EA’s Need for Speed: Carbon in seventh and Ubisoft duo Monster 4x4 World Circuit and GT Pro Series in eighth and ninth respectively. Activision’s Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam claims tenth place.

Wii software in general enjoyed a strong opening week, bettering the performance of its Xbox 360 rival last year by a similar margin to the hardware.
