Namco Bandai profits jump, revenues fall

Namco Bandai has posted a 12.3 per cent year-on-year profit rise in its third quarter financial results after a good performance on PS2 and PSP, despite overall sales falling 4.3 per cent year-on-year.
According to Gamasutra.com, sales from the Japanese firm's video games business helped boost profit to Y19.89 billion (EURO 126.8 million) in the three months before December 31st – a rise of 12.3 per cent.
Video games alone enjoyed a sales rise of 4.9 per cent to Y100.22 billion (EURO 638.7 million).
During the three-month period, the company sold 16.6 million units of software.
The firm’s top two-selling games were Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 on the PlayStation 2 with 1.03 million units sold, and Tekken: Dark Resurrection on PSP with 0.84 million units sold.
These were followed by Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop 2 (Nintendo DS) at 790,000, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja (PlayStation 2) at 530,000 and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny II Plus (PlayStation 2) at 510,000.
The company also announced that it expects full fiscal year results, ending March 31st, to result in net profits of Y23.5 billion (EURO 178.9 million) and revenues of Y460 billion (EURO 3.5 billion).
