Confirmed GfK-ChartTrack figures show stunning UK launch weekend for new Nintendo console
GfK-ChartTrack has confirmed to MCV that DSi sold 92,000 copies at UK retail over its opening weekend.
Dismissing premature reports that the console sold in excess of 100,000 units in the two days, the body said that the launch put the UK High Street in “prime position” for Easter next weekend.
MCV yesterday revealed that DSi had become the fourth biggest console launch in UK history, behind PS3, PSP and Wii.
“I would expect this launch to very much stimulate the DS software market,” said GfK-ChartTrack UK director Dorian Bloch.
“It’s difficult to know how many of these 92,000 consumers were new and how many had upgraded from their DS or DS Lite. But the next software chart will show the effect of those that have never before owned a DS. The DS market is primed for Easter, and we expect big numbers.”
