Poker’s mainstream ascendance has done it the favour of shedding its seedy, backroom image – its new glittering, celebrity studded face attracting computer games and TV shows alike. Andrew Wooden goes all in…
It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly when it happened, but at some point in the last few years the world quite simply went poker mad. Though the fascination was galvanized on internet gaming sites, it has since spread like wildfire to televised events, dedicated cable channels, massive increases in book sales and a plethora of video games.
Oxygen is releasing two versions of its poker sequel simultaneously; World Championship Poker 2 for the PSP and World Championship Poker: All In for the Xbox 360.
Popular games like Texas Hold'em and Five-Card Stud make an obvious appearance, while less well-known games such as Deuce-to-Seven, Triple Draw and Razz will provide veterans with something different to try.
The Xbox 360 version has enhanced graphics and webcam support, improved AI, scenario play for honing particular skills, multi-table online tournaments, mixed-games, poker rule customisation, a reputation system and it makes use of the Xbox Live Leader boards and Xbox Live Vision.
The PSP version offers online multiplayer support for up to eight players and has a number of format exclusive mini games such as Flop Odds, where a player has to figure out the percentage chance of getting a specified hand.
