Having been on the market for 15 years now, the Armored Core franchise has built a strong following.
The third-person mech shooter series – developed by Dark Souls studio From Software – is already known for its action-packed futuristic battles. And this latest release from Namco Bandai, Armored Core V, is continuing to push the IP forwards with large-scale multiplayer battles, more tactical strategies and custom mechs.
Online players are able to invade another gamer’s territory – even if that person is offline. So users must set up an automatic defence strategy. After logging in, players can fight directly against friends or team up to defend against other squads. Up to ten players can battle online at once in five-on-five matches.
Armored Core V also encourages players to use the geography on each stage to their strategic advantage, in order to maximise damage against enemies and other mechs. There are 500 customisable mech items, such as arms, legs and weapons, as well as unlockable multiplayer ranks.
The single-player campaign can be tackled alone or cooperatively. Plus, a new team-based Operator Mode makes one player squad leader, who is able to supply teammates with enemy movements and intel for a more war-like experience.
