Any law enforcer worth their salt knows that, unless your name happens to be Chuck Norris, it’s unwise to take on a drug cartel alone.
So, in the latest title in the Army of Two franchise, players can once again partner up, this time heading to the Mexico’s meanest streets to take on the evil La Guadaña organisation.
Consumers play as two new characters Alpha and Bravo and the franchise is also taking a new direction with its game engine.
The Devil’s Cartel swaps the Unreal Engine 3 for Frostbite 2, the engine behind Battlefield 3 and Need for Speed: The Run.
This title transforms players into an indestructible killing machine when the Overkill ability is triggered, meaning walls; buildings and enemies crumble to dust under the power of a player’s enhanced weaponry.
It’s an addition to the series that EA is particularly pleased with.
“Features wise, Overkill is the most exciting innovation for me,” says Kevin Flynn, senior product manager at EA.
“This really does bring the Hollywood flavour to life. It’s explosive, over-the-top and a lot of fun.”
IT TAKES TWO
Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston sang about the importance of doing things in twos. Whilst they saw dreaming, wishing and walking in the moonlight as activities enhanced through sharing, the same can be said about pumping bullets into Mexican drug lords.
And as part of a deadly duo, players can work together to flank enemies, create distractions or administer adrenaline to a partner when in trouble.
With new characters and a new Engine to boot, The Devil’s Cartel will look to once again champion the notion that two heads are deadlier than one.
DIGITAL DESTRUCTION
EA is taking a digital approach to the marketing for The Devil’s Cartel. “Naturally we will be across the different social media outlets building on our audience. And we’ll also be leveraging some of the other franchises from EA that we know our Army core are fans of,” says Kevin Flynn, senior product manager at EA. “We know they enjoy Battlefield and Medal of Honor for example so that gives us a platform to broaden our message.”
PRE-ORDER BONUS
Those who pre-order the game will receive the Hit-Makers Kit. This Kit gives players the chance to play as B.o.B and Big Boi, the hip-hop stars behind Double or Nothing, the game’s official theme song, in a special mission. The duo will appear as the characters Anthony ‘Barker’ Barnes and Charles ‘Chuy’ Rendell.
