Forget the bathroom cleaning product – Bleach is also a killer Manga franchise with over 65m copies of the comic sold worldwide.
Although not a household name in the UK, it has cult status, with fans flocking to the MCM Expo dressed up as characters from the series every year.
Tecmo Koei is bringing the hack ‘n’ slash franchise to PS3 in Bleach: Soul Resurrección, an action game that lets gamers take control of 25 playable characters.
The story takes place during the same timeframe as the latest episodes of the TV anime and gives users the ability to wield special ‘Bankai’ and ‘Hollowfication’ powers.
“Over 800,000 people watch the Bleach anime on Cartoon Network and the DVDs have sold over 1.1 million units,” Tecmo Koei’s VP of sales and marketing Will Curley tells MCV. “The PS3 title gives all those fans the first chance to play a game that graphically does justice to the anime and Manga.”
Tecmo Koei is marketing the game in Manga magazine Neo and using its own social network pages as well as Manga’s UK channels to promote it.
Attendees at the London MCM Expo in May had the chance to play the game, with a footfall of around 60,000 at the event. An exclusive pre-order offer with GAME will let early buyers receive a voucher to download Bleach episodes via an online anime service.
