The original Borderlands turned out to be a surprise smash hit. The new IP shifted two million copies by December 2009 and sold over 4.5 million by 2011.
The game received favourable reviews from critics, scoring over 80 on Metacritic for PC and console versions and saw a whole host of popular downloadable content packs.
This cartoony first person shooter is loaded with deep role-playing elements and colourful characters that allow gamers to jump into an expansive open world and tackle a huge amount of missions at their own pace.
THE JOURNEY AHEAD
Borderlands 2 begins in the midst of a gladiatorial tournament five years after the events of Borderlands and is run by Handsome Jack. Jack denies the tournament prize loot to the winner which sees the beginnings of an assassination attempt on the swindler.
While all the features of the first game remain, such as skill trees, class modifications, and four-player online cooperative, Borderlands 2 has additional character modifications, better vehicles and a more dynamic quests system that changes depending on a players’ actions.
Enemy AI has also been given a kick that sees them now flank, take cover, heal, and work together to try take down players. Vehicles will also now spin and slide around making driving a much more intensive experience.
Its comic charm, entertaining gameplay and expansive history make it a must-have for many a gamer. Borderlands 2 will launch this September 21st on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
DELUXE VALT HUNTERS
The Deluxe Vault Hunters Collectors Edition includes some goodies for die-hard Borderlands fans. The package includes the game, art book, comic book download, sticker set, bobblehead and more.
THE GOLDEN TICKET
2K Games has teamed up with Official Xbox Magazine to release several Borderlands 2 covers featuring characters from the game. Lucky gamers who nab a gold cover will win a HDTV and a copy of the game signed by Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford.
BUS TO GAMESCOM
2K Games had organised a special Borderlands 2 road trip for press wishing to go to Gamescom 2012 in style. The Borderlands 2 sponsored bus took journalists from London to Cologne, Germany on August the 14th and will return tomorrow (18th).
Gearbox has been keen to keep a close connection with its fans using the games’ mascot Claptrap. The developer helped a young man’s marriage proposal on YouTube and also recorded a eulogy for fan Michael John Mamaril, who passed away at 22 from cancer.
