HAVING made a successful transition to consoles with Crysis 2, the Crysis franchise is back with a trip to a New York more chaotic than usual.
Once again gamers play as Prophet as he returns to the Big Apple only to find it’s been encased in a Nanodome created by the Cell Corporation.
This new-look New York has become a rainforest divided in seven sections full of swampland, rivers and overgrowth.
“At its core, Crysis 3 will be using the latest version of the Award Winning CryEngine. The CryEngine 3 really sets the Crysis franchise apart and in Crysis 3, this is more apparent than ever,” says Will Graham, senior product manager on the game.
The open design of the levels will give users the chance to carve their own way though the levels, wielding a new compound bow, a customisable nanosuit and alien weapons found in and around the environments.
ESCAPE TO NEW YORK
The game features thermal camouflage that lets players turn the terrain against their enemies, but for those who favour the all-guns blazing approach, nano-powered armour allows players to carry heavy artillery and chuck large objects.
Alongside the campaign, players can also take to the Hunter multiplayer mode which pits two cloaked hunters against 14 villainous cell troopers. When a cell trooper is taken, they return as a Hunter until there are no cell troopers left.
Crysis 3 also marks the return of the crash site mode from its predecessor, a king of the hill-style mode featuring an area that’s constantly on the move.
Players can now even show off their online accomplishments, view the scores of others and challenge friends in the new NY Feed.
Albert Hughes, the director of Menace II Society, From Hell and The Book of Eli, has created an online video series called The 7 Wonders of Crysis 3. He has worked alongside the Crytek development team on the series, which introduces weaponary, gameplay elements and enemies from the game.
For hardcore fans of the franchise, a Hunter’s Edition includes a new signature Crysis bow, a Hunter nanosuite to be used in multiplayer modes and the option to customise your load out as well as three exclusive Hunter-themed dog tags.
Those who pre-order the game from Amazon will receive the Brawler pack which includes early multiplayer access to the Feline submachine gun. The pack also features a custom camouflage skin for the weapon.
Consumers will receive a downloadable copy of Crysis 1 when pre-ordering the title from GAME. “We feel this offer is very strong, appeals to fans and gives people that missed it a chance to go back and experience a very well respected and loved game,” adds Crytek’s Will Graham.
