The Dead or Alive series is famous for more than just it’s explosive and fast-paced combat. In fact, it’s probably better known for the female fighters’ gravity defying jiggly breasts.
It has been six years since the last game in the franchise, Dead or Alive 4 in 2006, was released for Xbox 360. Creator Team Ninja is pushing for a more serious tone for this game, even though slapstick humour, tiny swimsuits, and busting bosoms are still part of the package.
Of course it’s the fighting that’s most important, and Dead or Alive 5 is no exception with improved combat mechanics, visuals and move sets to keep even the most dedicated fan surprised and entertained.
One new feature is the Power Blow, which is a triggered attack that enables players to knock the opponent away into a special danger zone or floor level. Outrageous cinematic scenes play during power blows, much like the super combos in Street Fighter IV.
Dead or Alive 5 is also the first of the series to come out on multiple platforms, hitting both Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles in September.
“The game offers sexy fighters and an interactive environment that no other fighting game can match,” said European PR manager Marilena Papacosta. “You can kick your opponent through a wall, off a building, or into an exploding oil rig as the environment engulfs the action.
“Following a rich history on Xbox, with the last instalment coming as a launch title, the return of Dead Or Alive is hotly anticipated.”
The game also features a collaboration with Sega’s Virtua Fighter series, adding playable characters to the roaster and offering a huge incentive to hardcore fighting fans and Virtua Fighter fans to pick it up at retail.
Consumers who pre-order the game from HMV, Zavvi or ShopTo can also nab some additional Dead or Alive 5 goodies.
Papacosta adds, “We expect a big response to Dead or Alive 5 at retail from fans of the series, hardcore fighting fans and casual gamers alike.“ Dead or Alive 5 launches for excited fighting fans on September 28th.
Fans wishing for some extra goodies can pick up this fancy edition. It includes a wet-styled tin case, soundtrack CD, a hard cover art book, poster of the whole DOA5 cast and premium swimsuits for all the female characters in the game.
