Wizards of Waverly Place: Spellbound

This game allows players to control three siblings with magical powers.

Following on from 2009’s DS title Wizards of Waverly Place, based on the hit TV series of the same name, the new Spellbound game follows the story of Alex, Justin and Max Russo after Alex’s fashion show dress goes missing.

Players can visit their favourite characters and locations from the TV show in isometric 3D including the Waverly Sub Station and Tribeca Prep. Gameplay is a mix of puzzle, action and adventure – with gamers able to freeze objects, turn themselves into hamsters, run at turbo speed and more.

Owners of the Nintendo DSi can also use the ‘Wiz Pix’ option to take photos of real-world objects in order to unlock magical items in-game. 25 costumes can be unlocked by completing wizard challenges.

Disney is making novel use of the DS’ stylus device, with users able to flick and swish the pen across the screen to cast spells and levitate objects.

Wizards of Waverly Place: Spellbound is part of a wider product push from Disney which has also released books, CDs, DVDs and clothing based on the franchise.
Spellbound will appeal to both younger DS owners and fans of the series.

Phineas and Ferb: Ride Again

Phineas and Ferb is an animated TV show that follows the antics of two brothers who come up with all manner of schemes during their summer holidays.

Their sister Candace always tries to thwart their plans, but often fails, while the brothers’ pet platypus – Agent P – works as a secret agent for a government agency to keep their schemes secret.

Its wacky plotlines and colourful style make the TV series perfectly suited to the DS, with Disney providing this mini-game-packed 3D action title Ride Again.

Players must team up with other characters from the series to use all kinds of gadgetry – such as rocket ships and skateboards – in order to defeat the evil Dr Doofenshmirtz.

There are plenty of mini-games such as mine cart rides which allow users to upgrade and unlock new gadgets including a jet pack and X-ray goggles.

Like Wizards of Waverly Place, Ride Again also features extra content for DSi owners – in the form of a mini-game.

The Disney Channel will also advertise the new game and TV series for six weeks, while a trailer will appear on the Disney and YouTube websites.

Both DS titles are sure to draw in viewers of the Disney Channel, younger DS owners and families whey they hit shelves later this month.
