Created by British indie developer Mode 7 Games, Frozen Synapse heads to store shelves after a healthy digital launch.
Already highly scored by Edge, Eurogamer and PC Format, Frozen Synapse has also picked up a selection of awards from PC Gamer, Independent Games Festival and Develop.
Frozen Synapse is a turn-based strategy game that offers classic gameplay with a modern interface. Players can plan their moves and test them before executing them. Essentially, Frozen Synapse is a mix of strategy focused X-Com and Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six all in a cool blue interface that shows a top down view of the battlefield.
Players can take part in the 55-mission single player campaign, Skirmish Generator, Instant Skirmish or one of five challenging multiplayer modes titles Hostage Rescue, Disputed, Secure and Exterminaton.
The multiplayer mode is taken in turns and notifications are sent to each player, much like turn-based titles on smartphones. This allows multiple games to be played at once.
The retail version of the game comes in a special Collector’s Edition, which includes stickers, postcards, a soundtrack, a gift key to be redeemed on Steam, and the Red Expansion pack, which adds co-op play against AI as well as new units and music.
