Halo 4

This is the first main Halo title to be developed outside of Bungie’s studio. The fourth game sees Microsoft’s Halo-focused studio, 343 Industries, take the helm.

Halo 4 will kickstart a new saga for the franchise after Bungie’s three-entry epic that drew to a close in 2007. There’s been a handful of spin-offs since, including last year’s Halo remake – the first game in the series 343 has worked on.

Bringing back series hero Master Chief and faithful AI sidekick Cortana, Halo 4 is set nearly five years after the events of Halo 3. The couple venture into a mysterious new world and discover an overpowering ancient evil that threatens to annihilate mankind.

The Halo series has sold more than 42 million games to date, generating nearly $3 billion in total franchise sales. With Halo 4 taking the series into a new direction, it’s sure to attract die-hard fans and newcomers alike.

The series sees an increased focus on fast-paced action, epic encounters and interactive story elements to offer fans more freedom than ever before. As always, the main story campaign can be enjoyed alone or with up to four players over Xbox Live.

New to the series is the separate episodic campaign Spartan Ops, which sees players experience a brand new story surrounding the UNSC Infinity and its crew. The episodes will release over several months, offering gamers a variety of story missions to play alone or with friends. These will be released each week and last around 30 to 60 minutes each.

Players will also enjoy the full freedom and customisation in the game’s many multiplayer modes. Competitive modes called War Games, take play on the combat deck of the UNSC Infinity and offer the immersive experience that fans of the series have come to expect from the multiplayer.

There are 10 different modes to choose from, allowing fans to progress their Spartan-IV career. Modes include Capture the Flag, Dominion, Flood, Griftball and fan favourite Slayer.

Halo 4 introduces an episodic campaign mode called Spartan Ops that follows the story of the UNSC Infinity and its crew. The cinematic episodes will release weekly and available in single-player and co-op.

The limited edition includes a 90-minute version of the live-action digital series, bonus videos on the series lore, backstory and character backgrounds. Also included are multiplayer maps and armour skins.

Dedicated fans will want to grab the Halo-themed Xbox 360 console bundle that comes in blue with matching controllers. It also has a 320GB hard drive, exclusive sound effects, game and DLC content.

A new multiplayer mode being introduced allows gamers to play as series antagonists the Flood. The mode resembles the zombie-inspired Infection mode, and sees two players try to infect the rest of the team.
