The turn-based strategy genre has a devoted and wide following of gamers, from Civilization on PC to Advance Wars on DS.
Jagged Alliance is a classic military-style game in the genre which first arrived on PC in 1994. Now Kalypso Media is bringing it back to the boxed retail market in the form of Back in Action. This is a remake which boasts an updated 3D look as well as high-definition effects, characters and locations.
Back in Action is set on the fictitious island of Arulco, where the player is tasked with bringing a dictator to justice. Gamers must build a team of mercenaries to take out guards and secure the island.
The £34.99 game uses a new hybrid ‘Plan and Go’ combat system which combines both realtime strategy gameplay with turn-based elements for a unique experience.
“There is a high demand for tactical combat, modern warfare-style gameplay among PC gamers,” says Kalypso Media’s head of marketing and PR Mark Allen.
“The Jagged Alliance brand has a huge fanbase with many still playing and enjoying Jagged Alliance 2’s tactical turn-based gameplay.
“Back in Action ticks all the right boxes and will deliver what the audience is demanding. This is a must buy title for fans of the series and newcomers alike.”
The game is being backed by a three-month trade and consumer ad campaign in print and online, with activity running on strategy and PC gaming websites. This will drive pre-orders for the title.
Special Edition SKUs are available which include the Specialist Combat Pack downloadable content.
