LittleBigPlanet became an instant success when it launched on PS3 in 2008, selling over 4.5 million copies worldwide.
British developer Media Molecule put together what turned out to be a perfect tool set for creative gamers and future designers build their own levels, puzzles and set pieces and share them with the world.
This latest version utilises the PlayStation Vita’s large touch screen. Players can touch the screen directly to interact with the environment.
Thanks to the PlayStation Vita’s multi-touch feature, two players can take part in competitive games such as Pass’n’Play, where players go against each other at the same time using the same console.
PLAY, SHARE, CREATE
A whole host of new features have been introduced to the game, allowing users to push or pull objects in levels with the front and back touch screens on the Vita. The console’s front and rear cameras can also be used to take photos of objects so that you can integrate them into user created levels. Tilting the console also can be put to use, replacing the PS3’s Six Axis controller, which allows players to swing Sackboy across objects.
Consumers are still able to create their own levels and share them online. The touch screen allows users to directly draw objects into the game world, making it much easier to create custom items.
Dedicated fans of the series will be happy to see that any costumes they’ve purchased on the PS3 versions of LittleBigPlanet will be available on the Vita version as well as the upcoming LittleBigPlanet Karting at no extra charge.
It’s a perfect fit for fans of the series. LittleBigPlanet Vita hits stores this September 25th.
For anyone who hasn’t picked up the Vita yet, Sony are releasing a special LittleBigPlanet bundle for the launch of the game. The bundle includes a Wi-Fi version of the console with the game for €249.99.
RETAIL AND ONLINE
Sony’s online campaign runs from September 10th to the 30th across games sites, including a YouTube masthead on release day. Pre-rolls and rich media banners will also don key games and entertainment sites. Meanwhile, a plethora of P.O.S is also available.
TV AND CINEMA
A ‘New Ways of Playing’ TV campaign, which will run from September 17th to October 7th, is set to register 220 TVRs. There are also cinema adverts running from September 14th to October 18th hoping to reach 12m admissions.
Eager customers pre-ordering LittleBigPlanet Vita can choose either the BioShock pack, from GAME, which includes Little Sister and Big Daddy character skins or a Knights of Old pack, from Amazon, that adds four costumes for Sackboy or Sackgirl to wear.
