Pandora's Tower

Nintendo Wii isn't a console known for its hardcore video games. However, Japanese role-playing games have found a home on the platform of late.

Nintendo has drawn fantasy game fans and RPG lovers in their droves to the Wii over the past 12 months, thanks to several specialist titles. These include the acclaimed Japanese adventure titles such as Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story and of course, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

Pandora’s Tower is the latest release, which is focused more on action and features 13 ‘gruelling’ environments for players to explore.

“Following on from the success of Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story, Pandora’s Tower is sure to excite fans and complete their Wii JRPG collection,” Nintendo’s junior product manager Vanisha Kavia tells MCV.

“Pandora’s Tower also features a soundtrack composed of critically-acclaimed and much-loved classical music, including composers such as Verdi and Tchaikovsky.”

Monster storyline

Players take on the role of Aeron, an Athosian soldier who must save his girlfriend Elena. She is slowly mutating into a demonic abomination, and the only way to reverse the curse is for Aeron to bring her the remains of as many monsters as possible. As you do.

Users must climb 13 separate towers as they fight an army of foes. They can use the Wii Remote’s motion sensor and point controls to swing Aeron’s magical Oraclos Chain weapon. Elena’s physical appearance also changes as players progress. The longer it takes for gamers to overcome each tower, the more grotesque Elena will become. How the players interact with her will also determine which of the five endings they’ll unlock.

Pandora’s Tower presents a Wii RPG feast for hardcore players, core gamers and fantasy fans alike. It’s also proof that the Nintendo console isn’t just for family or fitness games.

Pandora’s boxes

The game is available separately or as part of a Limited Edition bundle which comes with an art book and SteelBook cover. It’s also presented in a special case.

Nintendo targets fantasy game fans

Pandora’s Tower is a part of Nintendo’s ‘Wii Gamers’ TV campaign which kicked off on Sunday, April 1st. This will promote RPGs including The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story. Ads will also run on games, anime and manga websites.
