Rayman Origins is proof that 2D platformers can continue to innovate and delight in a market dominated by blockbuster 3D titles. Now it's heading to Vita.
Having already scored highly with game critics late last year on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, with Metacritic ratings of 87, 87 and 92, Ubisoft is now bringing Rayman Origins to PlayStation Vita on February 22nd. 3DS and PC versions will follow in March.
Not only does Rayman Origins on Vita contain the entire console game, it also boasts several features exclusive to the portable. Players can pinch the touch screen to zoom in, allowing them to experience the hand-drawn art in greater detail and spot secrets easier, too.
A Ghost Mode records the user’s fastest lap times and uploads these online, encouraging friends to beat one another’s records.
Rayman is also a long-running video game icon, who has notched up 20m unit sales since his mid ‘90s debut.
“Rayman Origins is an incredibly beautiful 2D platforming game,” Ubisoft’s brand manager Ombeline Wallon tells MCV. “It really stands out with its unique art style, 60 levels of platforming madness and humour. On PS Vita, Rayman Origins retains all these original qualities: the PS Vita is perfectly suited to a quick-playing, addictive platformer with amazing graphics.
“It will keep players hooked while they are on the go.”
