The next in Sony’s series of PS3 collections arrives. James Batchelor revisits the shooter originals in this box.
Sony’s alternate history FPS Resistance: Fall of Man was one of the biggest launch titles for the PS3 and the series has remained a flagship franchise for the console ever since.
The third instalment arrives in the UK on September 9th but there’s still time for users who have yet to play the first two titles to catch up – something made far easier with the latest Sony double pack.
Continuing the platform holder’s new strategy of bundling two PS3 hits into a single box, the Resistance compilation features the 2007 hit Fall of Man and the 2008 sequel Resistance 2. It joins other Sony PS3 compilations – Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank.
In the first Resistance FPS, players must save a 1951 England from alien hordes of the Chimera. Having invaded from the Channel, these monsters have forced the survivors to hide in the northern reaches of the UK and only the combined might of the British and US armies can fend them off.
Unfortunately, by the events of Resistance 2 the Chimera have managed to conquer the UK and the rest of Europe. Gamers now take on the role of an American soldier, fighting to defend major US cities in 1953.
Resistance: Fall of Man was the first PS3 title to sell over 1m units and has a Metacritic score of 86. Resistance 2 has a slightly higher score of 87.
With Resistance 3 around the corner, expect this pack to perform well as newcomers bring themselves up to speed and fans relive earlier entries in this popular FPS series.
