The Saint Seiya franchise has been around since the mid-80s when it arrived as a weekly Japanese comic and later a cartoon TV series.
It follows the story of five magical heroes known as saints who wear powerful individual armours based on different starsigns. Although it’s a smash hit Japanese series, Saint Seiya has a cult following in the UK too. And the games, much like Dragon Ball Z, encapsulate the fast-paced action, storyline and gorgeous decals of each character.
Saint Seiya Sanctuary Battle is a third-person action title where players must take down several foes at once using a host of magical attacks. Users are tasked with defeating the gold saints of 12 palaces in order to protect Athena. As they progress, they can unlock new devastating Cosmo attacks.
The PS3 exclusive also includes a special mode where gamers can explore the Saint Seiya universe further, with alternate stories available for the ultimate fan service.
Namco Bandai says the game’s environments, characters, ‘Myth Cloth’ armours and enemies have all been designed to be faithful to the anime. It also features the original Japanese voice overs, and promises to offer gamers ‘the most complete mythical Saint Seiya experience’ ever made.
Sanctuary Battle was shown off to consumers for the first time at the 2011 Japan Expo.
