SBK Generations

James Batchelor finds out why Milestone’s latest is the biggest motorbike racer of 2012.

Superbike racing is a niche sport but it has a very enthusiastic and dedicated fanbase.

As the 2012 FIM World Championship passes the halfway mark, publisher Black Bean offers fans a fresh way to experience the thrill of the track: SBK Generations.

The tournament’s official game not only features all of the racers and teams from this year’s season, but also the previous three. Consumers can now relive their favourite SBK moments from 2009 onwards, slipping into the leather racing suits of more than 220 of the world’s greatest riders.

There are also 17 real world circuits to master, a task made tougher by the advanced game engine. Players will have to take into account the physics of the bike they’re racing, as well as the effect weather has on the track itself.

Milestone says that the authenticity, attention to detail and affordable price tag – £29.99 on consoles, £19.99 on PC – will make the game a hit with racing fans.

“We are confident this will perform very strongly at retail,” says Milestone marketing manager Davide Bilotta.

“When you consider it is the only superbike racer this year, as there is no Moto GP title planned, the fact that it is the best SBK ever developed and and it is the official game of the World Super Bike Championships, it really is a must stock title for all retailers.”

Black Bean and PQube have been promoting SBK by sponsoring Motors TV show Bike World throughout May. The series reaches a UK audience of 1.3m people and a European audience of 3.5m.

Banner ads will also run across BikeChannel.com, while print ads will appear in the gaming press and specialist motorcycle titles such as MCN, Fast Bikes and Superbike.
