As usual, this latest iteration of SingStar gives everyone the chance to be a star, whether it’s by showing off and singing solo or challenging friends and family to a sing-off. With multiple difficulty levels and selectable song length SingStar is as damn near to being universal in appeal as it’s possible to be.
“SingStar remains one of our biggest IPs, and its popularity and performance at retail continues to astound all who work on it,” says Lucy Garnett, product manager for SCE UK. “With 12 million units sold across PAL to date – five million of them in the Fiscal Year 2007 alone, our commitment to the franchise, and the consumer’s passion for new titles, is still as strong as ever.”
“In addition, with the brand now branching further into digital business via the SingStore on PlayStation 3, and with the ever growing community that is MySingStar online, it continues to go from strength to strength.”
So what’s new for this latest edition of the ever popular series? Garnett explains: “SingStar Vol. 2 features a harmony duet mode, which is a new way of playing that allows two players to sing different lines to a song at the same time, showing off their harmonising skills. This is really a chance for fans of SingStar to showcase their talent and adds a new dimension to the SingStar experience.”
In a telling nod to the online community space, SingStar Volume 2 also gives singers the chance to show off performances at My SingStar Online by uploading photos and videos created with the game. You also get the opportunity to rate other people’s performances and leave comments in the community space. In fact there are some on there now – check it out.
Handily for those online moments, SingStar Vol.2 is PSEye compatible too, making it all easier to share and watch back those classic and indeed not-so-classic performances.
“Given the performance of SingStar on PlayStation 3 to date, we expect a strong sales performance from the release of Vol. 2,” concludes Garnett. “And with the addition of new songs and features, Vol. 2 will continue to attract a new audience to the ever growing SingStar phenomena.”
