Tiger Woods might not be the cover star of this year’s PGA Tour game (PS3 collector’s edition aside), but don’t let that put you off, with the popular Masters tournament taking centre stage.
PGA Tour 12 promises more career options, courses, players and fairway antics than Tiger can shake his stick at.
The most notable addition is the Masters Tournament, which gamers can take part in as they attempt to obtain the sought-after golfing prize – the Green Jacket.
There’s also a ‘Masters Moments’ mode, which allows players to relive periods in the tournament’s history.
They can even relive Tiger’s four wins at the Masters by attempting to equal or beat his scores.
Once again EA Sports delivers a golfing experience that boasts faultless attention-to-detail, graphical prowess, accessibility and downright fun.
“The key selling point for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 is the ability to finally play on the hallowed grounds of the Augusta National Golf Club,” EA Sports product manager Kuran Kapoor tells MCV.
“This is a first for any Tiger Woods PGA Tour game to feature this course, and the studio have put in a lot of effort to ensure it looks as realistic in-game as it does in real life.
“PGA Tour 12 also offers players the caddie experience – a trusted companion to evaluate pre-shot factors such as the wind speed and direction, before offering a recommended shot. As your caddie’s knowledge of each course increases, he will level up through ‘Course Mastery’ and become a valued member of your team.”
Tiger is not the only star of this year’s title, as EA Sports has secured a number of other big names from the golfing world (see ‘New Pros’).
PGA Tour 12 features commentary from Jim Nantz and David Feherty, who head up the game’s revamped TV broadcast presentation style. There are also 16 courses and more than 20 pro golfers to choose from including Zach Johnson and Bubba Watson.
With its authentic feel, new Masters modes and established gameplay, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 will no doubt be seen as a must-have title by both golf fans and sport gamers.
Driving to retail
EA has sponsored pro golfer Rhys Davies to wear the firm’s logo on his shirt during the European Tour season. The publisher is also working with extravagant golfer Ian Poulter on PR activities.
Touring the UK
PGA Tour 12’s marketing push consists of print ads in gaming, lifestyle and sports mags, as well as TV ads on sports and mainstream channels. An online push will tee off for release week.
