uDraw GameTablet

uDraw has been a great success for THQ?in the 12 months it has been on sale.

The accessory has shipped around 2m units since it reached shelves in the US this time last year, and it’s performed admirably in the UK since March.

Not only is the device a breath of fresh air, it also has the chance to capitalise on the Christmas rush for the first time in the UK. But up until now it’s only been available for Wii owners.

Enter the uDraw GameTablet for Xbox 360 and PS3, once again boasting motion control and touch-sensitive games. Like the Wii version, uDraw for HD?consoles lets users draw images with a stylus and bring them to life on-screen. But unlike Wii, users aren’t required to place a controller within the tablet. Instead, the directional pad has been integrated into the left of the uDraw and standard buttons on the right-hand side, making it easier to pick up and play. It’s also been given a sleek black makeover.

It’s backed by a £2m ad campaign, which will see the product promoted on TV reaching 83 per cent of housewives and kids, as well as three quarters of dads. It has been showcased at GAMEfest and THQ?even has The Fonz (Henry Winkler) on board, by backing the kids charity My Way, which he is ambassador to.

More than art

The GameTablet comes bundled with Instant Artist, a package that acts as a virtual art studio. It contains a variety of paintbrushes, art lessons and more to act as a suitable starting point for buyers.

But it’s not all about drawing. THQ is releasing a handful of other games compatible with the device which encourage novel use of the stylus (see the right-hand page for more information on each game). These are released on the same day as the accessory.

uDraw Studio: Instant Artist

A package that lets players take 15 art lessons, take part in number painting, dot drawing, colouring book activities and more. They can also print their creations and share them online.

Disney Princess: Enchanting Storybooks

This Wii exclusive for girls features a variety of Disney stories from The Little Mermaid to Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. Players can colour in the in-game pages to bring the worlds to life. It’s also available on DS.

Pictionary: Ultimate Edition

The classic board game hits Xbox 360 and PS3, with users able to navigate across a 3D board, customise game pieces and draw clues to progress. The multiplayer title boasts over 3,000 clues including 1,500 new ones.

Marvel Superhero Squad: Comic Combat

Gamers can control superheroes such as Captain America, Iron Man and Wolverine by using the uDraw stylus and tablet. For example, drawing a circle drops a boulder in-game while a curved line marks out the trajectory of Captain America’s shield.
