Wreck-It Ralph: Trade Spotlight

The biggest video game-inspired movie to grace cinemas is set to take retail by storm

THE FILM

WRECK-IT RALPH, a Disney animated film, takes place within a world of video games and features appearances from iconic gaming characters.

The title character is an arcade game villain who gets fed up of playing the bad guy and decides to travel between the games in the arcade in a bid to become the hero.

The film, which arrives in the UK on February 8th, has spawned a range of video games, toys, and mobile games and even managed to transform Brick Lane. It’s even been nominated for an Oscar.

THE GAME

HAVING already appeared on four wheels in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Wreck-It Ralph now stars in his own game published by Call of Duty-publisher Activision. The video game sends players into the world of Wreck-It Ralph, picking up where the motion picture ends.

Gamers must face off against a new army of Cy-bugs as they threaten Mr. Litwak’s arcade. Teaming up Ralph with eternal good guy Fix-It Felix, players can navigate through the game worlds of the film, including Sugar Rush and Hero’s Duty.

Players can use the brute strength of Ralph to wipe out obstacles while Felix can help repair them, all whilst striving to collect Hero Medals and Easter Eggs.

The game hopes to keep players coming back for more, by updating previous levels with new rules and challenges.

Arriving a few weeks before Ralph takes to the big screen, the video game ought to appeal to those looking forward to the Oscar-nominated movie

THE MOBILE GAME

ALONGSIDE the 3DS, DS and Wii video game, Wreck-It Ralph has its own adventures available on iOS and Android devices.

The Wreck-It Ralph mobile game allows players to follow Ralph’s example and hop between four mini- games. The arcade inspired 8-bit title Fix-It Felix Jr. allows consumers to play the game that paints Ralph as the villain, as players climb and dodge their way to a top score.

Hero’s Duty lets players blast away Cy-bugs with different weapons whilst the altogether sweeter title, Sweet Climber, sees Ralph jump between candy stalks in a climbing game thatnever ends. For gamers with a need for speed, the Turbo Time game allows players to take to the track in a retro racing title featuring 16-bit graphics.

THE TOYS

ALONGSIDE the game, retail can also stock a range of Wreck-It Ralph toys. Thinkway Toys has been named global toy partner licensee, with Mondo distributing the range in Europe. The selection of toys consists of single pack action figures, five-inch vehicles with detachable figures, four-inch racers, deluxe action figures, talking action figures, nine-inch, ten-inch and 20-inch plush toys, and role- play Wrecking Fists gloves.

THE 8-BIT LANE

Disney’s PR and marketing campaign for Wreck-It Ralph included them taking over London’s Brick Lane. The area was awash with an assortment of pixelated dogs, pigeons and even a taxi, which transformed the street into the appropriately named 8-Bit Lane.

Wreck-It Ralph the game is out on February 8th and for a list of video game UK release dates, check out our comprehensive release schedule.
