Wreck-It-Ralph 2 reportedly in the works

British composer Henry Jackman has said that Disney is working on Wreck-it Ralph 2.

Jackman scored the first film. His other credits include X-Men: First Class and GI Joe Retaliation.

I can’t tell you more, not because I’m being coy, but I believe that it is officially on the cards,” he told Collider. I don’t know any more other than a story is indeed being written. I’d be very surprised not to.

Just the movie itself I thought was a fantastically imaginative and creative piece of work. Rich [Moore], the director, actually got involved in the writing Just as a concept, it would be almost remiss of them not to write another one. It’s a great idea and it’s a great character.”

The first Wreck-It Ralph was announced back in August 2011, creating much excitement in the games industry. A screen released nearly a year later created much excitement thanks to the inclusion of characters such as Chun-Li and Zangief.

The film itself included Bowser, Doctor Robotnik, M Bison, Blinky and Pinky, Frogger and Q*Bert as well as a host of other gaming references.

Wreck-It Ralph’s director Rich Moore told MCV last year that he was reluctant to focus too much on gaming cameos for fear that it would limit his creative freedom.

I think that had we tried to make this movie about the character of someone like Donkey Kong, there’s so much mythology and baggage attached to pre-existing titles that I feel someone would be disappointed,” he said.

Someone would be like ‘Oh no, you missed the point. He wouldn’t do that.’ It was easier to take something that was new and felt evocative of that time period that was pristine. It was almost like virgin snow that felt like an old game but wasn’t an existing property that would pull certain members of the audience out of the story because it wasn’t being serviced in the way that someone would feel it needed to be.”
