Sega delves into the Japanese underworld once again this month with its PlayStation-exclusive action series in Yakuza 4.
The story picks up one year after the events of the previous game. A man is murdered in the Tojo Clan’s territory and attempts to investigate only lead to more death. These events trigger a battle between four men, fighting for money, power, status and honour.
Gamers once again take on the role of Kazuma, hero of the Yakuza series, but this time they will also play as three other characters. Each one has their own missions to complete, giving players the chance to explore Tokyo from different viewpoints and discover more about the gangs and their culture than ever before.
The city itself is once again authentically replicated, from the bright lights of the downtown area and the shady backstreets to the intricate underground and even the rooftops. There are more new areas to explain than in any previous Yakuza game, making this the franchise’s biggest adventure to date.
Combat has also been overhauled, with enhanced battle mechanics and a new fighter training system allowing players to develop new skills and become the ultimate brawler.
The Yakuza series has a strong following of loyal fans, so expect them to flock to stores for the fourth instalment in this ever-twisting series.
