Wheelchair option coming to Xbox avatars

Microsoft has revealed that Xbox users will soon have the option to have their avatars use a wheelchair.

The confirmation came first from Xbox boss Phil Spencer, who replied to a Twitter user to state that the company was working on the idea. Fellow Xbox exec Mike Ybarra then chipped in with a sneak pic of how it will look.

The industry’s increasing efforts to be more inclusive to a wider number of people are commendable. Indeed, for many disabled gamers the option of being able to more truly reflect their real-world selves with their avatars – should they choose it – will likely be very much appreciated.

Here’s a glimpse of how it will all look. An official timeframe hasn’t yet been announced, but it sounds like it’s not far off:
