Vita sales fall below 50k in Japan

Sales of the PlayStation Vita have fallen below 50k during its third week on the market.

Eurogamer reports that Sony’s new handheld shifted 42,648 units during its second full week on sale.

Vita shifted 325k units in its opening weekend, only for sales to plummet to 72k during the following week. To make matters worse, Vita was outsold by PSP for the second week in a row in the territory.

By contrast, the market was once again bossed by 3DS, which sold 197,592 units. That’s down on last week’s record-breaking 482k sales.

The 3DS dominated the software market, too, claiming five of the country’s Top Ten titles. 13 of the Top 15 charts titles were for Nintendo machines.

Two Vita games made it into the Top 30 – Hot Shots Golf in 28th and Uncharted: Golden Abyss in 29th.
