3DS games won’t dry up, Iwata promises

Gamers can expect regular software releases to be very much the norm with its upcoming 3DS handheld, according to Nintendo president Saturo Iwata.

Speaking to a Japanese newspaper, as translated by Andriasang, Iwata made the following pledge:

"It’s important that you be able to supply software with no pause. With the DS and Wii, following the titles that were released at launch, the momentum dropped when there was a gap in software releases. We’re making plans so that this type of thing won’t happen."

Over the weekend it was confirmed that the 3DS will launch with only eight titles alongside it in the territory. However, Nintendo and a number of third party publishers have an impressive line-up of big-hitting releases pencilled in for the rest of the year.

Elsewhere in the interview Iwata added that he’s not yet able to confirm any launch details for the 3DS outside of the core gaming regions of Europe, America and Japan.

With just 4m machines ready for the launch across those territories, it will be some time before manufacturing is up to spec and supply demands has calmed. Expect a wider rollout later in the year.

The European launch date (and hopefully price) will be announced next week.
