3DS regains lead as PS4 sales slip in Japan

Nintendo’s 3DS is back in front in Japan.

The latest sales data from Famitsu shows that Nintendo’s 3DS XL (or LL as it is known in Japan) shifted 47,692 units last week – that’s 47 per cent up on the previous week.

Vita, despite seeing a slight jump in sales from 36,533 to 40,625 units, had to settle for second place while PS4 sales fell 28 per cent to 24,138. It’s now two weeks since PS4 has topped the Japanese charts.

Here are the hardware charts for the week ending March 30th:

1. Nintendo 3DS LL – 47,692
2. PS Vita – 40,625
3. PS4 – 24,138
4. PS3 – 16,757
5. Wii U – 13,073
6. Nintendo 3DS – 10,003
7. PSP – 3,308
8. PS VitaTV – 1,814
9. Xbox360 – 187

And here are the Top Ten games:

1. Hatsune Miku Project DIVA F 2nd (Sega) Vita – 103,581
2. Mario Party Island Tour (Nintendo) 3DS – 74,104
3. Hatsune Miku Project DIVA F 2nd (Sega) PS3 – 61,438
4. Youkai Watch (LevelFive) 3DS – 44,700
5. Samurai Warriors 4 (Koei Games) PS3 – 39,837
6. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (Konami) PS3 – 36,498
7. New LovePlus (Konami) 3DS – 31,750
8. Hakuoki SSL: Sweet School Life (Idea Factory) Vita – 27,850
9. J Stars Victory Versus (Namco Bandai) PS3 – 24,455
10. J Stars Victory Versus (Namco Bandai) Vita – 21,93

UPDATE:NintendoLife points out that the jump in some hardware sales is likely due to the fact that as of April 1st sales tax in Japan was increased from five to eight per cent, quite possibly leading to a rush to buy certain systems (seemingly 3DS) before prices rise across the board.
