Redundancies partly due to projects failing to meet expectations

40 jobs lost as Wooga restructures

Germany-based games firm Wooga has been struck by a series of layoffs that see 40 staff dismissed from the company.

The layoffs were part of an internal restructure, GamesIndustry reports, chipping away at the mobile firm’s previous headcount of 300 people. Fellow Wooga employees have already taken to social media to help those affected find new employment.

Following these job cuts, Wooga will now be formed from three studios: one for puzzle games, one for hidden object, and another for casual simulation. The latter is reportedly focusing on Apple Watch titles.

According to an official statement, the redundancies made were due to some of Wooga’s latest projects failing to meet the company’s expecations. For example, new title Agent Alice struggled to live up to the success of similar hidden object game Pearl’s Peril.

There’s no word on whether this affects Wooga’s new indie studio Black Anvil Games.

The news follows similar layoffs and restructuring at fellow German games firm Goodgame Studios.
