The mobile game sensation comes to consoles

Angry Birds ‘the most downloaded PSN game’

The explosive success of the Angry Birds franchise is now having an impact on home consoles, if analyst statements are to be believed.

Lazard Capital Markets’ Colin Sebastian claims the PSN version of Angry Birds has become the biggest selling title on the platform.

The game, built by Finnish studio Rovio, was released on the PlayStation Network in January.

"The PSN currently has 75 million registered accounts worldwide,” Sebastian said, as quoted by IndustryGamers.

“PSN appears to be gaining traction tapping into the casual and social gaming market,” he added, “with titles such as Angry Birds which is the most downloaded game through PSN.”

Angry Birds, which had apparently cost Rovio $140,000 to develop, is said to have been downloaded over 100 million times across various mobile devices.

Numerous editions are available on iOS, and a free ad-supported version has proven popular on Android.

Angry Birds Rio, the latest edition in the series, has soared past ten million downloads just ten days since launch, the game’s developer has claimed.

Rovio, backed now with $42 million in VC funding, is pondering a jump on the New York Stock Exchange.
