Alec Baldwin turned down GTA role, "incomprehensible amount" of money

Actor Alec Baldwin claims he turned down a ludicrous sum of money to voice the role of a mob man in Grand Theft Auto 2.

In a recent interview with IndieWire, Baldwin explained he was offered a bit above industry standard for the gig – but ultimately turned it down due to the nature of the role, and what it could mean for his reputation.

[The makers of] Grand Theft Auto came to me to do a voice of some mobster, many years ago, for Grand Theft Auto 2,” Baldwin said.

They offered this incomprehensible amount of money for one day’s work. They offered me a pile of money, this ridiculous amount of money to just come in a record this voice for one or two days.

I turned them down because [the character] was a cop killer. And I didn’t want to get near that [because] of my reputation; I have enough problems with the press as it is. I said no.”

GTA2 was developed by what would eventually became Rockstar North, and published by Rockstar. It originally launched in 1999 on PC and PlayStation, and was later ported to Sega Dreamcast and Game Boy Color.
