Amazon has stated that the outage that it suffered on Satudrady was a result of hardware failure and not online ‘hacktivism’ as has been claimed.
An spokesman for the online retailer told Reuters that: The brief interruption to our European retail sites earlier today was due to hardware failure in our European datacenter network and not the result of a DDOS attempt.”
Speculation had been raised over the possibility of a distributed denial of service attack as Amazon was one of the first private businesses to shift its stance towards WikiLeaks, when it decided to remove the site from its servers.
