Amiibo prices hiked as talk of supply problems emerges

It appears that supply problems are hitting a range of Nintendo products, with retailers being forced to cancel some pre-orders and others increasing their prices.

NintendoLife spotted that GAME has upped the price of Amiibo figures from 11.99 to 14.99 and even has receipts from one store to prove it. The figures are now also priced at 14.99 on its website.

In addition, CVG reports that Amazon has been cancelling pre-orders not only for some Amiibo figures but also for the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros and its new GameCube controller adapter.

"We regret to inform you that we have been unable to source the item," an Amazon email to customers said. "Our supplier has informed us that this item is no longer available. This item has now been cancelled and we can confirm that you have not been charged for it. Please accept our apologies for any disappointment or inconvenience caused."

Further to this, MCV was tipped off by one retailer of what was described as warehousing problems” with one of Nintendo’s European depots, the result of which was the platform holder being unable to fulfil orders on Smash Bros and other products.

A number of Amiibos are still available on GAME’s and Amazon’s websites, although some are showing as out of stock. The supply issues also quite possibly contributed to the release of Super Smash Bros on Wii U failing to propel the game back into the UK Top Ten this week, although it did climb from 27th to 13th.

MCV is awaiting the response from a number of the parties involved.
