Animated Rabbids movie on the way

The Rabbids are making their way to the big screen.

Ubisoft, Sony and Columbia Pictures have announced a partnership to produce a full-length feature film starring the Rabbids.

Shot to fame by the Rayman franchise, the creatures have proven popular with younger viewers and have since branched into their own brand with comic books, merchandise, mobile games – and even the Rabbids Time Machine attraction in France’s Futuroscope theme park.

The Rabbids made their debut on the small screen with the launch of their own TV show Rabids Invasion. During its five-month lifespan, the show has been viewed more than 165m times with each episode attracting 2m US viewers.

"Sony Pictures has tremendous experience developing hybrid live-action-and-animated blockbusters for audiences around the world, which makes them a natural fit for what we want to achieve with a Rabbids film," said Jean-Julien Baronnet, executive director, Ubisoft Motion Pictures.

Hannah Minghella, president of production for Columbia Pictures, added: "There is an infectious quality to the Rabbids. Their simple joy and absurd, anarchic behavior inadvertently causes you to look at the world afresh. There’s no end to the comedy and chaos they will cause when they invade our theaters."
