Scottish firm launches new film and post production divisions

APB dev Blazing Griffin expands into film

Blazing Griffin is repositioning itself as a cross-platform entertainment firm, now focusing on films and post production as well as games development.

The announcement was made via the company’s website, where the team detailed several key hires for the two new divisions. The firm is best known as a games developer, creating titles such as APB Retribution and Distant Star.

The move comes as Blazing Griffin adapts to the increasing amount of film, TV and games production happening in Scotland.

“I moved to Scotland because of the talent that is known to exist here and the great deal of support available to businesses from the likes of Scottish Enterprise, SDI and Creative Scotand,” said MD Peter van der Watt.

“One can create sustainable, fast-growing entertainment companies that retain much of the local environment’s flair.”

The Blazing Griffin Films team will be headed up by Naysun Alae-Carew, a BAFTA award-wining producer, and Nicholas Crum. Anne Mensah, formerly head of drama at Sky, also joins the team.

The film department will focus on developing existing and new IP. Alae-Carew added: “We want to create worlds – build stories that span games, films, TV, comics and more, and give our audiences a chance to experience something a little different in each one, but always with a great story at its heart.”

Blazing Griffin post, meanwhile, will be run by David Frew and Charlotte Walsh, who between them have worked on TV shoes such as Outlander, Shetland and Waterloo Road.
