Apple names Lara Croft Go as iPhone Game of the Year

Square Enix’s isometric puzzle platformer Lara Croft Go has been named by Apple as the best iPhone game of 2015.

Note that the award has nothing to do with commercial performance – it’s the game Apple’s games editorial team has chosen as their favourite.

Bethesda’s Fallout Shelter and 1Button’s Mr Jump were named as the two runners up in the games category. Rac7’s Dark Echo was awarded the Most Innovative Crown, while Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade was the best iPhone 6S game.

On iPad Joel McDonald’s soothing Prune was awarded the top prize, with the runners-up named as Ubisoft’s Rayman Adventures and Rayark’s Implosion. Sam Barlow’s wonderful Her Story was recognised for Innovation.

Streaming video app Periscope was named as the best overall iPhone app and The Robot Factory the best iPad app. HBO Now and Rayman Adventures were named as the best Apple TV app and game respectively.
