Apple tops brand placement chart

Global brand consultancy firm Interbrand has found that Apple successfully placed its leading products such as the iPad, Mac and iPod into 30 per cent of the top grossing films in the US in 2010.

Movies to feature the brand included Toy Story 3, Kick Ass and The Other Guys. Apple also claimed the same title in 2009.

Since the year 2000 Apple products have been successfully placed in one third of the 334 US no.1 movies, Reuters reports.

The 2010 movie with the single highest number of placements was Iron Man 2 which boasted 64 identifiable products. In total 591 brands were recognised across the 33 films that claimed no.1 status in the US last year. That averages out at 17.9 per film – up on 2009’s 17.5 per film.

In December Ofcom announced that as of this month TV companies will legally be able to sell product placement in its programming in the UK.
