Assassins Creed takes on COD

Some have been quick to peg the high number of releases slipping from Q4-09 to Q1-2010 as the ‘Call of Duty effect’, but publisher Ubisoft has stated that it’s confident that Activision’s shooter will have no negative impact on sales of the forthcoming Assassin’s Creed II.

The first game we released two weeks after Modern Warfare, and we still sold 9m copies,” the game’s creative director Patrice Desilets told VG247.

People, when they want their first-person shooter fix, they buy Modern Warfare. If you want you a swords, running on rooftops, big open city fix, this is it. And there are people that want to play that, and they don’t want to play the game with guns.”

Assassin’s Creed II is due to be released on November 20th – a week and half after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which is out on November 10th.
