Avalanche Studios founder Christofer Sundberg to leave after 16 years

Founder and chief creative officer of Avalanche Studios, Christofer Sundberg is leaving the company at the end of April 2019 after founding the studio sixteen years ago.

Sundberg founded Stockholm-based Avalanche – which is best known for Square Enix’s Just Cause franchise – in 2003 with Linus Blomberg, who remains at the studio as chief technology officer. The developer is currently working in partnership with Bethesda on Rage 2.

"I just announced to the team here at Avalanche Studios that I will be leaving the company at the end of April," he said in a tweet. "The studio I founded in my kitchen, built, ran and loved for 16 years, working together with fantastic individuals and teams."

Sundberg has not detailed what’s in store for him after his departure.

Sundberg is not the only high profile executive to be leaving a long-held position in April 2019. Nintendo of America has announced that its long-standing president Reggie Fils-Aime is retiring on April 15th to spend "more time with [his] wife, family and friends". He will be succeeded by current senior VP of sales and marketing, Doug Bowser on April 15th, 2019. Nick Chavez will, in turn, succeed Doug Bowser as senior VP of sales and marketing.

In a reply to Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller’s tweet about Fils-Aime’s departure, Sundberg joked: "I bet he quit because I did… Not that I’m full of myself or anything."
