550 to attend this week's Develop Awards, making it most popular ever; Major national media interest

Big night for developers

Wednesday’s Develop Industry Excellence Awards will the biggest in event’s history.

Over 550 top designers, programmers, artists and studio bosses from around the world will be in attendance to find out who has won key awards that acknowledge technical innovation, pioneering visual arts, attention-grabbing audio accomplishments and commercial and business prowess.

Among them will be the minds behind hit games such as Angry Birds, Crysis, Bulletstorm, Limbo, Minecraft, Need for Speed and Just Dance, plus the companies that invented the best-selling Kinect and PlayStation Move motion controllers.

It will be the most attended night in the Develop Awards’ nine-year history, with more than 140 different companies in the room. The event takes place on the evening of Wednesday, July 20th at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Brighton, UK.

"The awards are a huge boost for a market that has fractured and spread across more platforms and geographical territories than ever before," said Develop Editor-in-Chief Michael French.

"Our event is the ultimate night for games developers, with hundreds of leading talents from across Europe in the room to see the big successes of the last 12 months honoured at a one-of-a-kind event."

The Develop Awards is the only event to reward the biggest and brightest game development talent across the UK and Europe. Over 90 companies have been nominated across 19 categories, competing for honours in art, business, audio, creativity and services.

Two Special Industry Recognition Awards will acknowledge exceptional work done by an individual and company. The Development Legend Award will be given to industry veteran Ian Livingstone, while the Grand Prix will be announced on the night.

Comedian Tom Wrigglesworth will open the show, and the awards will be handed out by comedian and broadcaster Iain Lee.

The prestigious Brighton awards night is also set to have its biggest ever media coverage from the national and specialist press.

Journalists from The Times, The Telegraph, The Guardian, FHM, IGN, Gamespot, Edge and VG247 will be attending.
