Gamescomâ??09: Netherlands-based Xsens providing animation tech for new MMO Poisonville

Bigpoint chooses Xsensâ?? unique mo-cap tech

MMO developer Bigpoint has turned to Netherlands-based motion-capture firm Xsens Technologies to use the group’s tech for its upcoming game, Poisonville.

The unique feature of Xsens’ motion-capture tech – known as MVN – is that it, essentially, doesn’t use typical camera technology.

Instead, the group tracks motions using tech based on inertial sensor technology – so; using accelerometers and gyros. The firm also uses GPS and biomechanical modelling to achieve its unique motion-capture models.

Xsens has provided tech in the past for groups such as Electronic Arts, Sony Pictures Imageworks as well as Aeronautical companies.

“Using the MVN system for character animation, our team is able to create realistic motions within extremely short timelines”, said Bigpoint MD Heiko Hubertz.
