Bioshock Infinite VP of development Rod Fergusson departs Irrational

Former Gears of War producer and current Bioshock Infintie VP of development Rod Fergusson has announced his exit from Irrational Games just eight months after being hired on.

Fergusson explained to Polygon that his joining the Bioshock Infinite team was based on good timing, as the studio was looking for a ‘closer’ to help finish the game at the same time he was leaving Epic Games. Fergusson seemed to indicate that the position was always to be a temporary stay.

During my departure from Epic, I learned that Irrational was in need of a ‘closer’ to help finish BioShock Infinite,” Fergusson said. I’ve been striving for better storytelling in the games I’ve worked on and I saw this as a great opportunity to learn from Ken and his team on how to build a truly story-driven game.”

I am very proud of the work that I did and of the team and what they were able to accomplish on Infinite. Now with the game shipped successfully, I’ve done what I set out to do here and now I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my life and career.”

The industry veteran isn’t sure where he’ll end up next, but it’s a given most studios would welcome someone of his credentials with open arms.
